Verse 1: Would you be my favourite color, With your green and copper hues? You are like a master's painting Complete with reds and blues. Verse 2: Would you be my favourite city, With your buildings full of light? You are like the bursting quiet That comes upon at silvery night. Chorus: And love wants you to stay here right now And love says you should go And breathing is a little easier at first, when you're around And then when you're gone... Verse 3: Would you be my favourite movie, With your plot twists and your bends? You are like the resolution That comes before the open end. Verse 4: Would you be my favourite weather, With your cool breeze floating on? You are like the clouds that cover And the crying of the dawn. Chorus: And love washes us in its flood And love makes us run And breathing is a little tough at first, when you're around And then when you're gone... (audible sigh)

Love is a River, Raging fierce and free. But I can't swim, I never learned, Nobody taught me. So if I get caught in the current, I guess I'll drown. Come on sweet River now, And take me down. 'Cause I'm so far From where I've been I don't think if I run this race, That I will win. So, sing me a song, A song I can live by. This lonely feeling's about to melt my eyes! Well, this breath must come to an end But this flood never will Heaven has a place for burning And hell must have a place for light And love is Water with a place for ebbs and flows Seeds are made for planting If the soil is just right Roots and swirls make use of the undertows Well, love can follow, And love can flow. The pain never subsides, And yet, I don't wanna go. Well, I only fish in the River now 'Cause I've learned a thing or two. You say you'll never die, But I will be there when you do. Oh this breath must come to an end But this flood never will

What did you expect me to say When you took my words away Spreading dissent among the people Always left a sense of play What did you expect me to do When you asked if it all was fine I had nothing left to give to you I wasn't even sure what was mine I only know how to take from you anyway To keep myself satisfied In spite of all my noble fantasies I was only along for the ride I had found a gift in you at last An answer to the longest question asked The easiest of tensions ever building leading upward So I held fast I had found the top of the tower Shrouded in a fog of clouds Obscured by words that would devour So I whispered them right out loud You were like a shining comet shooting through But I was ever oh so high Instead of seeking greater heights you found a princess To give you your own personal sky Now she'll get the best of you (good for her) She'll give you more of both of you (good for them) They'll grow to be just like you (well good for you) You learned the art of what to do We would change the world together If only your kingdom for a Pearl sir Lose your faith and things get harder But sell your soul then you're the martyr I've often thought of how we took two roads Yours was paved and mine was wild I wouldn't have it any other way But you're forever counting miles Now she'll get the best of you (good for her) She'll give you more of both of you (good for them) They'll grow to be just like you (well good for you) You learned the art of what to do

Here We Are 05:00
It's amazing how a little thing like this Can take the wind right outta your sails (Really quick, really fast) Make you lose all track of time And then you lose your spot in line and wind up with the snails (Oh, wait - they just passed) You can get up in the morning and say "Hello Mr. Sunshine, do you have my back?" (He'll say "Sure, but just 'til dark!") Then as twilight starts to settle so do you upon a metal bench You find yourself sleepin' in the park (Oh my how stark) As you drift away you see the moonlight Climb down ladders made of trees to kiss your face (And your and your hand) Then you snap to suddenly and realize it's the flashlight Of a cop and does he have mace?! (Aw, c'mon man!) Hey where'd you leave your self-respect I had my own last time I checked I'll keep it, thanks (Now please just move along) You know a treasure's really slow to be found in this god-forsaken town Just gimme five and I'll be gone (Off to where I belong) Running down the tracks Ragnar, come for me My head, it won't turn back Ragnar, come for me Come for me! (multiple times) As you get up and you stretch your arms You yawn a hollow sigh and sate your appetite (At the first greasy spoon) You notice sitting in the booth right next to you Is a proselytizing blatherskite (And it's not even noon) He says he wants to tell you all the secrets Of the Universe and would you like to come catch a ride (On a star) You pay and make your way to leave and turn and answer him "Hey buddy but we've already come so far... Have we arrived? Well, HERE WE ARE."

about

This is an album of songs that I produced (engineered, performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered) for the final project of my Associate of Science in Sound Arts degree, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They are all songs that I'd written prior to entering the program, with the exception of "The Art of What To Do" and "Here We Are", which I finished writing specifically for this project.

"Stairwell Magic" was recorded in a five story, concrete stairwell at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, in March of 2012. I believe the stairwell has since been treated with sound dampening materials. This piece captures the glorious acoustic qualities of the space's natural reverberations. What you hear is almost completely untouched; I took out a low frequency buzz caused by the HVAC system, but there is no other editing.

The cover art is a photograph I took of my Mom' s piano, which belonged to my Great-Grandfather (you can see his finger-nail grooves!). This piano was not used in these recordings, but it is where the song "The Art of What To Do " was born.
