about

I wanted to record at least one track on this project as a live performance - no overdubbing, just me playing my guitar and singing at the same time. So, this recording is a one take performance, EXCEPT for the two train whistle harmony lines during the middle section; I recorded the entire song in one take, then went back and recorded those harmony vocals.

lyrics

It's amazing how a little thing like this
Can take the wind right outta your sails
(Really quick, really fast)
Make you lose all track of time
And then you lose your spot in line and wind up with the snails
(Oh, wait - they just passed)

You can get up in the morning and say
"Hello Mr. Sunshine, do you have my back?"
(He'll say "Sure, but just 'til dark!")
Then as twilight starts to settle so do you upon a metal bench
You find yourself sleepin' in the park
(Oh my how stark)

As you drift away you see the moonlight
Climb down ladders made of trees to kiss your face
(And your and your hand)
Then you snap to suddenly and realize it's the flashlight
Of a cop and does he have mace?!
(Aw, c'mon man!)

Hey where'd you leave your self-respect
I had my own last time I checked I'll keep it, thanks
(Now please just move along)
You know a treasure's really slow to be found in this god-forsaken town
Just gimme five and I'll be gone
(Off to where I belong)

Running down the tracks
Ragnar, come for me
My head, it won't turn back
Ragnar, come for me

Come for me! (multiple times)

As you get up and you stretch your arms
You yawn a hollow sigh and sate your appetite
(At the first greasy spoon)
You notice sitting in the booth right next to you
Is a proselytizing blatherskite
(And it's not even noon)

He says he wants to tell you all the secrets
Of the Universe and would you like to come catch a ride
(On a star)
You pay and make your way to leave and turn and answer him
"Hey buddy but we've already come so far...
Have we arrived? Well, HERE WE ARE."
